The word "Yoga" means "to unite". My first experience of "Yoga" was on the side of a cliff. I was rock climbing. My climbing partner was somewhere 40 meters below me where I could not see, and I was at the crux of the climb. Hanging on a few fingers and tip-toeing on a vertical cliff, I felt the my strength was wearing out, and I started to freak out. Realizing that I needed to take my emotions in control, I took a few deep breaths and calmed my heart. It worked. I felt that I was in complete silence; then I saw a bird flew by, and I noticed the subtle sound of a stream gently flowing somewhere far away. "Love" feeling rushed in my heart. I could not believe the beauty of the Universe. At the moment, I felt united with Nature.
In practicing yoga, by tuning in to my Inner Self, I am able to re-visit that equanimity, joy and love that I felt when I was on the rock. In an intense yoga class, when I feel my energy connects with other student's energy, I feel "Home".
I invite you to share this wonderful, amazing experience with me (and don't worry, you don't need to be on a cliff!)

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga
Vinyasa means "to place in a special way". As we do vinyasa yoga, we flow from one challenging pose to another, while focusing our mind on nothing but our breath. Vinyasa is not only a strong physical workout, but more....Vinyasa yoga is essentially moving meditation.
I design my vinyasa yoga class and yoga foundations class based on the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga method which is my own personal practice. Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is considered by many people one of the hardest, physically challenging forms of yoga. Some people think Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is not suitable for beginners. In my opinion this is far from the truth. The traditional way of teaching Ashtanga is by the "Mysore" style, in which the student learns from the teacher one pose at a time on a 1 on 1 basis. The student will eventually memorize the sequence and be able to move from 1 vinyasa to another in a meditative manner, following his or her own breath.
In my Yoga Foundations class, I teach the poses we perform in the Ashtanga primary series (and some in second series). The primary series consists of invigorating standing poses, grounding forward folds, multi-directional hip openers, energizing backbends, strong core movements as well as arm balances and inversions. If a student comes regularly to my class, he or she will eventually learn Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga and be able to take his/ her practice home. This is my goal - I want all my students be able to develop his/her own practice and make yoga his/her lifelong journey. Come join me on this journey!
